Pier violence has blighted town’s peace and safety

9:13am Wednesday 23rd July 2008

WE read a lot about the violence which takes place in different parts of the country and I often feel how lucky I am to live here in Cornwall, where very rarely does it seem that we encounter the type of incidents that blight other areas.

How healthy is the dog mess on the path?

10:30am Wednesday 16th July 2008

I WALK to work across the footpaths from Swanpool into town and this week it has been trimmed - only they have left all the hedging over the footpath, the trees need cutting back as they are hanging in your face!

Resurfacing flys in the face of common sense

10:30am Wednesday 16th July 2008

RUNWAY resurfacing begins and I'm provoked to site an old adage, ie what's good for the goose should be good for the gander, not that geese need a runway!

No logic to fixed penalty notices outside Tesco

Where are Helston’s parking wardens?

10:15am Wednesday 2nd July 2008

WOULDN'T it be nice if parking wardens could help alleviate traffic congestion? Since the council took over the role, I have not once seen a warden in Helston town centre. Numerous times cars have parked on the bus stops at the bottom of Coinagehall Street, forcing the buses to park further out in the road adding to the obstructions and making it difficult for the elderly and disabled people to cross the kennels and board the bus. However, where one can spot a traffic warden is in the car park having a little stroll around while in the meantime the traffic comes to a standstill out in the main road. I admit it is easier to walk around a level car park than it is up and down a hill in the high street. When Cornwall becomes a unitary authority and starts using the new nondescript logo consisting of Cornish coloured wavy lines that looks a bit like a train track gone wrong, maybe the logo could be incorporated into the traffic wardens' uniform to emphasise the fact that they have no connection with our local police force.
