A woman who died after being critically injured in a head-on collision at Longdowns has been named by police today.

Hannah Handy, aged 25, from Helston, had been in a critical condition at Derriford Hospital since the collision, just after 9.40pm last Monday.

Her silver Peugeot 307 and an Audi A6 being driven by a 22-year-old man, also from Helston, collided on the A394 at Longdowns during a snow shower. Police said that the road was slippery with icy sludge.

Mrs Handy (nee Watkins)was trapped in her car after the Peugeot landed on its roof. She had to be released by fire fighters from Falmouth, before being taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, from where she was transferred to Derriford. Her family had been at her beside ever since.

The man received minor injuries.

The road was closed for approximately six hours, while investigations were carried out.

Police confirmed that the she died just before 2.30pm on Monday.
