THE SharonWood memorial football tournament is just a few weeks away and already most of the age groups are full. Again, the whole of the Wendron Youth section would like to thank Miller Countrywide for sponsoring the largest one-day festival of football in the South West.
Bruce Taylor said that the company was again delighted to be involved: "With 35 residential offices and specialist departments throughout Devon and Cornwall, we continually strive to put something back into the community so our continued association with this fantastic tournament remains a privilege."
Help comes from a sectors of business and the organisers are grateful to Scorse Foods of Helston for their enormous contribution on the day in helping to organise and successfully run the barbecue. In particular, the club would like to thank Jeremy Lovelock and his team for their tireless efforts .
Tournament organiser Alan Watson said: "This is the ninth year of the event and to date over £38,000 has been raised through everyone's efforts. A marvellous effort and credit must go to the team of organisers and many volunteers who donate their time freely on the day and in the preceding months. All proceeds are split equally between Cancer Research UK and Wendron Youth Football.
"This year we have representatives from the Kernow Youth League who will be walking around asking for donations to the Precious Lives Appeal, a cause we hope many will be supporting over the coming years."
The event which takes place at Wendron's Underlane ground on Sunday, July 20. There is a varied selection of teams from all over the South West: Exeter, Tiverton and Plymouth in Devon, right through to West Cornwall.
There will be a full programme of events for the whole family and for those arriving early there will be the usual "breakfast bacon buttie"
