This year Neil Tunstall’s annual excursion to a Masters Track and Field Championships took him to the European Masters in Slovenia, where he competed once again in the 45-49 age group in the 400 metres hurdles. In 2007 Neil, who lives in Helston, won the over 45 400 metres hurdles title in the World Championships in Italy. This year he came home with the silver medal, also in the Over 45 400m hurdles, in a time of 58.20seconds, just 0.4 of a second away from making it a double gold.

The Cornwall Youth Cricket Festival, sponsored by The Lord’s Taverners, Share Sports and The Lions Club of Falmouth and Penryn, begins its week-long event again this Sunday in Penryn. Around 600 boys (and some girls), some of whose parents played in the first festivals from 1987, will be taking part in matches on five grounds and in four competitions – under 11, 13, 15 and 17. The very popular u11 softball event is on Sunday, August 10, beginning at 9.30 am, involving 25 teams, with Rosudgeon back to defend their crown.

Thousands of pensioners could miss out on hundreds of pounds worth of backdated benefits as a result of rule changes that come into force later this year.

The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
