BUDOCK WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: The talk at the meeting was so poignant and praiseworthy that one of the members, Lynn, decided to give the proceeds of the coffee morning she is holding at her house on August 6 to this worthy cause. The talk was "Penhaligons Friend"'. The speaker, Barbara Bailey, is a worker with the charity which supports bereaved children and their families. Several years ago a conference was held in London on bereavement, particularly how it affects children and their families. Two nurses from Cornwall later met and found that there were no facilities at all in the county for this group, so they met up with members of the Social Services, Education and other similar groups, discussed how help could be given and started "Friends of Penhaligon". Dame Annette Penhaligon, the widow of David Penhaligon, a former Truro MP who was tragically killed in a road traffic accident, became the patron.

BUDOCK ST BUDOCK'S GUILD OF AZENOR: The Guild raised £732.48 over the past year for Open Doors, a charity that helps Christians across the world who are persecuted for their faith. Each year the Guild, who meet every month, hold various fundraising events for a charity chosen by popular vote. The money will be used to help support women and children whose menfolk have been imprisoned or killed.

BUDOCK WATER WOMEN'S INSTITUTE: Another interesting year for Budock W.I., and once again the Annual Meeting. The usual order of business was changed to enable the local community policeman to give an account of his duties, which cover Budock, Mawnan Smith, Treverva and other outlying areas.

Thousands of pensioners could miss out on hundreds of pounds worth of backdated benefits as a result of rule changes that come into force later this year.
In Cornwall many people spend time on one of the sandy beaches and shingle coves along the coastline.
The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
Post office campaigners in Cornwall are furious after Royal Mail turned down an invitation to a rally to discuss its closure programme across the county.
Those who whimped out missed out on the Carnival held on Saturday. Torrential rain failed miserably to dampen the spirits of those taking part though the small number of spectators adversely affected the size of the charity collection.
