The Falmouth Race for Life 2008, takes place on Sunday when a record number of entrants attempt to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research.

Organisers of the race, of which the Packet is media sponsor, are also encouraging those taking part and others to take along their unwanted clothes, CD's and books for the 'donation station', to sell in the Cancer Research UK Shop.

A total of 1,800 local women have accepted the charity's invitation to come together and help beat cancer on Sunday, one of many races held throughout the country and one of the most popular.

The Falmouth event, held at Gyllyngvase Car Park, takes place at 11am and it is hoped those taking part will raise £86,000.

Hannah O'Donnell the Falmouth Race for Life organiser, said: "We are delighted that so many women have responded to our invitation to join us at Race for Life this year and we hope to have a real party atmosphere on the day. The Falmouth event is always a fantastic experience, with local women coming together to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer.

"I hope everyone enjoys the day but I also hope they realise what a fantastic and vital contribution their fundraising will make to the work that our scientists, doctors and nurses are doing."

Added Hannah: "With just a few days to go, it's a great opportunity to make a final push on sponsorship.

The Falmouth Race for Life is closed for entries but for those who have been inspired to take part, there are still places left at Truro Race for Life on Saturday July 12 at 2.30pm, or Sunday, July 13 at 11am at Richard Lander School.

A full report of the Falmouth Race for Life will be published in next week's Packet together with photographs and on the Packet website.

Pictures will also be able to be purchased on line.
