I was interested to read in last week's Packet that Falmouth Rugby Club has been "sleeping". I would say it has been in a "coma!".
It is difficult to comprehend that Falmouth Rugby Club, not that long ago, used to play in the "top flight" of South West Rugby and played in the best arena in the Duchy.
Arthur Williams was surely out of order to highlight an alleged mistake by David Saunby regarding the date of the Scott May Daredevil stunt show (Saturday, August 8) On page 23 of the same Packet it was clearly reported there was an error on the Scott May web page from which Mr Saunby obviously obtained his information in good faith.
David as we all know was one of the leaders of the Save the Rec. Campaign for which Arthur, from his comments, is obviously very grateful. So why have a "pop?".
From reading numerous articles written by Arthur Williams it is encouraging to note that he is delighted that the Rugby Club is staying on the Recreation Ground which he describes in previous Packet reports among other things as the "Crown Jewel" of sports grounds in Cornwall.
However it is of considerable concern that despite all the "talk" nothing is being seen to be done to improve the facility. Are they still sleeping?
With the biggest stunt show in Europe about to appear in Falmouth, thanks to the initiative of Dave Saunby, allied to the Rugby Club sanctioning permission, this surely must be the chance for the Rugby Club to demonstrate their "new attitude" to the faithful that they are worthy lease holders of the Falmouth Recreation Ground.
Falmothians are proud of the Recreation Ground and it would be good for visitors and locals alike if the Rugby Club show some responsibility where there was none and make the Rec. look presentable to what will be a large audience as will the Rugby match against Cardiff.
I would suggest taking the players and committee members (of which they had 25 listed last season) off paintbrush duties and placing them on hoeing and strimming duties and ask a favour of the Landlords Carrick D.C. who will be walking away in March next year to put the stands and tarmac back to how it was when they took the ground over in 1974 when it was immaculately kept by the Falmouth Borough Council.

In Cornwall many people spend time on one of the sandy beaches and shingle coves along the coastline.
The South West Coast Path begins at Minehead in Somerset and runs along the part of the Somerset coast, across North Devon, round Cornwall, then South Devon and Dorset to Poole Harbour - a distance of 630 miles. It is the longest path of its type in the country.
Post office campaigners in Cornwall are furious after Royal Mail turned down an invitation to a rally to discuss its closure programme across the county.
Those who whimped out missed out on the Carnival held on Saturday. Torrential rain failed miserably to dampen the spirits of those taking part though the small number of spectators adversely affected the size of the charity collection.
