Fifteen staff at a Cornwall based travel agents Newell's are attempting to raise £7,000 for the air ambulance by doing a skydive from 10,000 feet.

Staff from Newell’s Travel, which has branches in Falmouth, Truro and Helston, be taking part in a tandem skydive on June 2 to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

One of those taking part will be Dave Rowley, a travel consultant at Newell’s Falmouth branch.

He told the Packet why he was looking forward to taking part in the tandem skydive.

“I am looking forward to completing my Tandem skydive on behalf of Cornwall Air Ambulance because, many years ago, my father-in-Iaw, who was a sail maker, was at Mylor harbour and suffered a heart attack whilst working on one of the boats,” he said.

He was lucky that there was both a nurse and doctor in close proximity who attended to him and resuscitated him and called for an ambulance. The air ambulance arrived really quickly and rushed him to Treliske and his life was saved.”

The staff have pledged to raise over £7,000 collectively on their JustGiving page and are well over half-way to reaching this mark, however the more money they can raise the better.

So far Dave and branch manager Kathie Ellis have cycled 114kms in one day on the Moor in Falmouth on an exercise bike and we are also running various competitions around different branches in order to raise funds.

They are also using their contacts at their favourite tour operators and cruise lines to generate prizes for competitions and also for them to donate to the collection.

A fund raising music quiz is also taking place at the Trelowarren Arms in Budock this Saturday at 7.30pm.

Cornwall Air Ambulance provide critical care to seriously sick and injured people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Responding to over 1,000 missions annually, our crew is here at a critical time when every second matters.

Operating with no direct government support towards running costs, it relies on the generosity of local people to keep flying 365 days a year.

Taking to the skies in 1987, Cornwall Air Ambulance was the very first air ambulance in the UK. It has since completed more than 32,000 missions, with that number increasing every day.

Given the county’s isolated beaches, rural settlements and challenging road networks, the service is vital to the residents that live here and the tourists that visit Cornwall.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once donated, the money will be sent directly to the charity.
